Cross Country Champs 4 May, 2012

This Friday (4 May) we are holding our School Cross Country Championship so that we can select our team for the Northern Zone Cross Country Champs to be held 17 May. A course will be set up on Friday morning. Students will have an opportunity to walk the course and the races will begin at 11.45am. Even though Northern Zones is only for year 4 - 8, we will have races for our year 1 - 3 students also. The timetable will be as follows:

Year 1 boys and girls, 500m:              11.45am
Year 2 boys and girls, 500m:              12.00midday
Year 5 - 6, boys and girls, 1500m:      12.15pm
Year 3 - 4, boys and girls, 1000m:      12.45pm

We may need some help from parents to direct children on the course. Please let Gail know if you intend to be here and available to help.

The races will go ahead whatever the weather (in true cross country style), unless there is torrential rain. Please ensure your child comes with suitable clothes and shoes for racing. Also, if it is likely to be a bit wet, a change of clothes would be sensible.

If we are able to organise it, later in May our intention is to invite a couple of other schools to bring a team of year 1 - 3 students to compete against our students. This will provide them with a further opportunity to compete in Cross Country.

A team will be selected for the Northern Zone Cross Country Championships using the results of these races. Specialised coaching will be provided for the Northern Zone team to help them prepare.

See you Friday.

Ka kite ano.
