Parents@Amesbury

Contributing....participating....and "Learning for life"

Parents at Amesbury School are amazing! We currently have a number of initiatives underway and parents are really getting involved.

Poi making: Over two Friday lunchtimes, Crisanna has taught parents how to make poi.  From Kath O'Connor (also photographer) .... "We learnt by Crisanna showing us, then doing, persevering, of course, through our mistakes.  We got better and quicker as the afternoon went on and also grew more confident.  We also got to know each other better.  So, all round it was great to be at school and living up to the school motto of "Learning for Life"." These poi will be used by the students as they prepare to perform at our international festival at the end of the year. Can't wait! See Photos below.

Community evening: Wow! What a turnout to this event! Perhaps 80-90% of our famiies turned up for our mid-winter Christmas Celebration. Unfortunately I did not take any photos, so if anyone else did, I would love to display them on the BLOG. However, children made Chocolate Christmas Puddings, Snowmen Cupcakes, Reindeer biscuits. They played pin the nose on Rudolf etc. and the turnout was so good we ran out of our delicious homemade soup! Thanks so much to Gail, Mary-Jane and Amaria for all they did to help make the evening a success. Thanks also to the teachers for all their help and support on top of a full day's teaching. You are awesome!

Towards community: As part of the community evening, parents met together to discuss the development of our school as a community. This was a very useful discussion and thanks to everyone who contributed so willingly. Earlier this week, we sent out a link to an online form to enable parents who were not able to make it to the evening to contribute. Please do use this over the next couple of days. Once this has closed, I will collate and summarise the groups' discussions and email them out to everyone. Teachers views will be added and we will organise a contribution from students.

Amesbury School PPT: The co-ordinating group of our parent body met for its first meeting of the year. They are an enthusiatic bunch and already have a number of projects in mind that the school could move forward on. However, they also want your ideas. They will be putting out a separate BLOG posting shortly. Look out for this BLOG post but in the meantime ponder on what PPT stands for.

Thanks to all our Parents@Amesbury for your amazing contributions, supportive conversations and for the feedback you provide which enables us to keep improving what we do.
