Amesbury International Festival
It’s now
just 6 weeks until the inaugural Amesbury International Festival begins! The festival committee are furiously
organising exciting cultural experiences for the week of 26-30 November,
culminating in our International Festival Gala Day on Saturday 1 December. Here are some snippets to whet your appetite:
Events
for the kids during festival week (in school time): Japanese origami workshops,
Greek myths and legends talk
Events
for adults during festival week (in the evening): French movie night, Japanese
Tea Ceremony, Indian cooking masterclass
Gala Day
(1 December 2:00pm): Ethnic food stalls, cake stalls, Kidzone, (games and activities), art /craft
stall, toys/games/puzzles stall, plus lots more.
All
details of event times, cost, ticket sales, etc, will be given over the
upcoming weeks. So keep these dates free
because it’s going to be great!
So, how
can you get involved? Read on!
* Gala day help - this will be a very
busy day! Any assistance you can provide with setting up, tidying up, or working
on stalls, would be greatly appreciated. Please contact either Crisanna Nel or
Fiona White (Amesbury teachers) if you can assist. crisanna.nel@amesbury.school.nz or fiona.white@amesbury.school.nz Thank you!
* Hold a stall - People in our local community are welcome
to host a stall on Gala day (1 December) selling items of their choice - food,
art/craft things, games/activities, etc. There will be a small fee to hold a
stall, but all other profits can go directly to the stallholders. If you and/or a group of friends would like
to hold a stall on Gala day, please email Crisanna or Fiona (see above).
* Bake a cake! - We are going to have a cake and coffee
stall on Gala Day, with all proceeds going directly to the school. (The money raised will go towards cultural
resources for 2013. ) We would love you to bake a cake, biscuits, or slice and
drop it off to the Hall kitchen on either Friday 30 November, or Saturday morning
on 1 December. We will price everything
for sale. Thank you, in advance!
* Ethnic food stall - Do
you have a talent for cooking or making ethnic food? E.g. sushi, curry, crepes, samosas -
anything! We are hoping to have a range
of different ethnic foods for sale at this stall. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear
from you. Alternatively, if you know
anyone who can help we’d really appreciate you letting us know. Thank you!
* Toys, games and puzzles - We would love you to donate any toys, games or
puzzles that your children have outgrown to our fundraising stall. Now could be a great time for a clean
out! (We would also gratefully receive
books too, but we aware that many people donated books to the school libraries
in Samoa last term.)
* Christmas hamper - A Christmas hamper will be raffled on
Gala Day. Any contributions to this
hamper will be hugely appreciated e.g. grocery items, health/beauty products,
Christmassy things, etc. You can bring
your Christmas hamper donations to Fiona in the school library. Thank you.
And
lastly,
* Recipes for our international cook book - the International Festival committee plan
to compile a cook book next year that reflects the culture and ethnicities
represented at Amesbury (there are over 17 countries identified on our school
roll.) Do you have a recipe that you
would like to share? If so, please email it to us. Thank you!
So that’s
the latest update, but watch this space as there will be more to come as the
term progresses.
Thanks
very much for your support.
