What have our teachers been up to?

Our teachers have been pretty busy getting out and about.....

MATT: This week Matt will be away for most of the week attending the Google Certified Teacher Course which is being held at Google in Sydney. It is a huge honour for him to be chosen as only 50 applications from around the world out of 500 were successful and Matt was one of them. Generally only 5 or so kiwis are chosen to attend. However, such was the quality of NZ applications this year that 9 New Zealanders will be attending. If you have not seen Matt's (one minute) application video, check this out....

Also, check out this fly through of Amesbury School that Matt put together for various presentations we have given.

DEMELZA, MATT, ANGELA AND FIONA presented at a Maths symposium  on the last Friday of term. Their presentation was entitled: Maths@Amesbury: Exloring the Equilibrium. The team received very positive feedback from those who attended.

ANGELA, MICHAEL, MERRICK, LISA, FIONA, AMARIA, MATT and DEMELZA attended the Ignition Unconference held at Albany Senior High in Auckland on Monday/Tuesday of the first week of the holidays. This was an opportunity for them to gather with like-minded people and "chew the fat" about 21st century learning. Our teachers really enjoyed it and came away with some ideas that might assist our ongoing development at Amesbury School. Several teachers also presented sessions.

LESLEY and Whanau had a busy time over the holidays with the the wedding of son, Sebastian, to Jess. The wedding service was held at David and Cathy Waters' beautiful property on an almost perfect Wellington day and the reception was held at Amesbury School. It was a very special day.

On Thursday morning, LESLEY gave a keynote to the Wellington Kindergarten Headteachers' Hui where she outlined a framework for thinking about "humanising education." Lesley acknowledged that ECE has been strong in this area for a long time with their curriculum, Te Whariki, but gave a challenge to, "Do it more and do it more deeply."

LESLEY, URS and ANGELA travelled to Ashburton where they presented a keynote to about 200 mid Cantebury teachers, school leaders and educational consultants. They followed this by taking a workshop for interested attendees. People were very interested to find out about what we are doing here at Amesbury School. Lesley, Angela and Urs took the opportunity to spend a day looking around Christchurch and they were shocked at the devastation and how unrecognisable the city centre is.

LESLEY was informed over the holidays that she has been awarded a grant to attend the Asia Education Foundation National Conference in Melbourne. This conference takes place in August. She is really looking forward to attending and gathering information and ideas to help us become more "Asia Aware" as a school.

MICHAEL and CHRISSEY, moved into their first own home over the weekend. Needless to say, they are very excited and feel very grown-up all of a sudden!

CHARLIE (Matt and Jenna's son) continues to grow and he is even studying Te Reo Maori!
