Churton Park Community Centre - What's on next week

It sure has been four seasons in one week this week! Cold, hot, windy rainy…just make up your mind!! 

ON NEXT WEEK
** Tai Chi with Mercedes **
Tai Chi with Mercedes is cancelled tomorrow. That was Mercedes’ last class of the year. Classes resume on Saturday 1stFebruary, 2014.
 **Playsense Baby Playgroup **
Our last Playsense Baby Playgroup for 2014 is on Tuesday 3rd December. Bring along your under 18 month old baby for fun, play and singing. $5.
 ** Revolve Fitness Seminar **
The girls from Revolve Fitness and Nutrition X will be back at CPCC on Wednesday 4th December. This time they will be presenting on something dear to all our hearts: How to survive the celebration season! They will be supplying FREE fitness and nutrition tips to get you through!  ** CPAC Creative Expressions **
Daphne and Anne from the Creative Expressions Craft Group will be holding their last session for the year on Thursday. More information about the exciting classes they have planned for 2014 will be coming soon!
 ** BodEvolve Circuit Class Thursday: Cancelled **
The Churton Park Little School are having their Christmas Party at CPCC on Thursday, so there will be no BodEvolve Circuit Class. I understand the BodEvolve Crew are going to Simmer for some Christmas cheer instead – nice one!
 ** Just the Locals Craft Market **
Just the Locals-Relax and Shop, Friday 6 December 2013 6.00pm-8.00pm.  Relax with tea/coffee and cake while shopping for last minute Christmas gifts.  Showcasing local talent including jewellery, paper crafts, clothing, soap and felted goodies.  Some stock will be reduced. See attached flyer.
 ** SPCA Adopt-a-thon **
The SPCA has had more than 200 kittens arrive with them this week alone. Now is the time to adopt (and to make sure your pet is de-sexed!). Cute and cuddly kittens and cats up for adoption here at CPCC from 12 – 3 next Saturday.

COMING SOON – MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR EVENTS & CLASSES STARTING IN 2014
** Presenting with Impact: Workshop for Women **
Nervous about giving presentations? Want to improve your public speaking skills? Join us on this half day workshop, for women who would like to speak more confidently to groups in work, business and social settings.
You will learn 4 ways to reduce nerves and build confidence, how to structure your presentation, and how to deliver it with impact. Your tutor is Kim Chamberlain, an international speaker, trainer and author who has been running courses for women for many years.  ** Toddlers in Tutus – Musical Magic for ‘Lil Tots **
 These exclusive classes embody all of the pre-school ballet/dance fundamentals, early childhood motor-skills of movement, in combination with musical interpretation and musical play. Most of all they are fun for the littlies and help instil self-confidence. Classes are starting Term 1 2014 with a special offer: First class free, Term pass is $99. Classes are Saturday mornings 10.15am - commencing Saturday 8th February (first week of school term).  ** January School Holiday Class - Kids Photography **
Joanne Honey Thomas is an amazing photographer who will be running a one-off kids holiday photography class on Tuesday 28th January. She has a fun, creative and completely hands-on session designed to teach kids how to develop a story through photography. There will be plenty of interactivity, team work and imagination required for this one! Children 8 years and up. The class is $25 and kids need to bring a digital camera.  ** January School Holiday Class – Build your own Bug Hotel! **
Join us at CPCC to build your own bug hotel! Go on a field trip around the Community Centre to collect your materials, and build a bug hotel! This class is something different to keep the kids happy these holidays! Thursday 29th January from 2 – 4pm; $20. Book through Therese Dennison: info@homeharvest.co.nz. EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
** Edible Gardeners Group **
We’re thinking of starting an Edible Gardeners Group, tentatively planned for the first Tuesday of every month from 7.30 – 9.30pm. The group will be hosted by Therese, a qualified horticulturalist. The tentative outline for 2014 is:
  1. Planning your garden – know your garden
  2. Soil testing and suitable plants
  3. Pests and diseases – how to treat naturally
  4. Composting and worm farms
  5. Propagation and seed collecting
  6. Indoor growing
  7. Herb growing
  8. What’s in season
  9. Courtyard and small space gardening
  10. Gardening with kids
  11. Easy gardening for the less agile
  12. Easy gardening for those with little time

 ** Photography Group **
The Churton Park Photography Club will share images, have open discussions about getting the best out of your photos and facilitate your development as a photographer. Hosted by an experienced commercial photographer, you will gain a strong awareness of your own taste and therefore fine tune your eye. Themed assignments each session will provide you with a fun new way to think about taking photos. Tentatively planned for the third Tuesday of every month 7.30 – 9.30pm. If you are interested in being involved, please let me know.
 COMMUNITY NOTICES
** Road Works on Westchester **
See the attached flyer for information on road works on Westchester Drive next week.
 ** Churton Park Tennis Club Open Day **
The club will be open on Sunday 8th December (wet day 15th December) from 12 -4 pm. Come along and try it out! Balls and racquets will be provided, and coaches will be on hand to provide tips and hints to improve your technique.
 ** Carols at the Park **
See attached for all the detail on our own Carols in the Park, Friday 13th December at 7pm.

FROM NEWLANDS COMMUNITY CENTRE
Come along to Newlands CC for Literacy Aotearoa's  language development skills and playgroup. Fridays 11.30-12.30. Learn English while a volunteer helps look after your children.  Gold coin koha. For more info call Raph or Fei on 4773724.

FROM TAWA COMMUNITY CENTRE
Tawa Intermediate School is having a celebration evening on Tuesday December 3 at 6pm.  Held at Tawa College, there will be performances and presentations including Kapa Haka, drama, dances, ESOL, photography & the Citizenship/Principal's awards.
