Powhiri - Welcome to New Students

 A powhiri was held on Monday afternoon to welcome ten new students to our school. It was a lovely occasion which began with the manuhiri (new students, parents and grandparents) being called (karanga) into the hall. The students then welcomed them with a hakapowhiri.

Student Tom Pavan spoke (whaikorero) on behalf of the school and Angela spoke on behalf of the manuhiri. A number of waiata (songs) were sung. After being introduced and warmly welcomed, the new students then joined the rest of the school. They are now tangata whenua (the home people - people of the land).
