Wetlands Grounds Development

You may have noticed some work happening on the grounds around the grass mounds beyond the courtyard. This is our wetlands development. This work resulted from consultation with students last year who said they would like to see a wetlands as part of our development. There will be a viewing platform and wooden pathway as well as rocks and logs to climb on. Please follow the link below to see the plans. It is expected that the wetlands will be used for science and other inquiries as well as for play. The plans incorporate a number of the children's ideas.

This is the first major ground development we have undertaken since opening. PPT Fundraising and funding from Fonterra and New World from 2012 and 2013 will cover some of the $26,000 this development is costing. We are really grateful to the WCC who have agreed to provide us with the $4000 worth of plants needed for the wetlands. Though most of the work will be completed this month, planting will not take place until May. With the wetter weather, we will get a better strike rate. We are hoping to do the planting ourselves - with some expert support. So no doubt we will be calling on you and students to take part in our FIRST ever working bee.

This development is just one of quite a number we have planned (over time) to make our grounds a really great community asset. One thing we have in mind is the development of a cultural/art walk through the school as well as a fitness trail. We notice our school is being used increasingly for sporting and fitness activities and we will consult with the wider community to see what activities/equipment would be useful.

Anyway, check out the activity down the back of the school.
