Artist-in-Residence at Amesbury School

Welcome back for term 2 2014.

For the first two weeks this term we are very lucky to have our first ever artist-in-residence - Colin Gibbs. Check out this website to learn more about Colin and his art:  http://www.gibbslang.co.nz/
Colin is joining us from the Waikato and will be spending the two weeks in our Art Studio space in Kakariki and living in his van outside the school!

His role is to "demonstrate the process of an artist to our students and to open a window to the idea of an artist being a "normal member of the public" demonstrating by working as an artist that it is a legitimate form of work and actually contributes to society." (Colin Gibbs)

As such Colin will not be directly taking art workshops and teaching the craft of painting to the students; but, rather, the students will be encouraged to spend time in the studio watching him work, talking to him, questioning him and possibly completing some of their own work in response to his.

School community members are most welcome at any time to pop down to Kakariki (end of Koru Hub) and have a talk with Colin and check out where he is at.

Colin is also a published author, educationalist and academic.

On Thursday 15 May, 6.30pm, you are invited to an informal meeting with Colin to hear about his art and life. This will be held in Kakariki. Please feel free to invite interested members of the wider community.
