Amesbury School Junior Invitational Cross Country

It was a perfect day that dawned for the Amesbury School Invitational Cross Country. We had wondered whether the right decision had been made the week before to postpone the cross country in the hope of a better day. And it was! Great decision, Erica.

The course was perfect cross country - a mixture of muddy, wet, but also enough dry underfoot conditions to get a bit of pace going especially along the bunns.

We initiated this cross country race in our first year as a school to give our juniors an opportunity to compete against other schools otherwise they would have to wait until year 4 to experience this. We love seeing our juniors striding out there. At the beginning of the races the pace is definitely on as individuals work hard to take the lead and hold it. Each time I wonder how they are going to sustain that pace but somehow they manage to and they are still running at a blistering pace at the end.

Well done to our juniors who ran so well. This year our students were very competitive with Amesbury School achieving 1st in four of the six races and 2nd in two. It seems that the lunchtime running practices are proving worthwhile. Most of these students are also running in a weekend cross country series.

A big thanks to Erica who did a wonderful job organising the event with help from teachers and to the students who led and followed up the races. What a great job you did! See photo below in which a couple of the helpers - Jamie and Jacob -  are warming up by doing one armed push ups. I was most impressed.
