Kids Cross Country Series 
The next Kids Cross Country Series event for year 1 to year 8 students is on Sunday 31 August at Grenada North Park, Tawa.  Get a few friends together and form a team.  Team and individual awards.  Children get their own personalised race bib if they enter 7 days prior to each event.  You don’t need to be a club member to take part.  Everyone is welcome.  For more information or to enter go to www.athleticshub.co.nz or email jo@athleticswellington.org.nz or phone 021 976116.
Have a week to yourself next January by sending your kids off on a holiday of their lifetime! Kiwi Kids Holiday Adventures and Travel has added the Hobbiton Movie Set Tour to the already jam-packed camp. Other highlights include Rainbows End, Splash Planet, Sheep Shearing, Gondola & Luge, and Auckland Zoo. Storylines Wellington Free Family Day
Michael Fowler Centre, Sunday 24 August  from 10am—3pm
A celebration of NZ authors and literature, this fun family day offers an Antarctica Zone, Bug ‘N Bees Zone, Monster Fun Zone, War Zone, quick draw panels with illustrators and authors, slide shows, beekeepers, insect experts, storytellers, performers, music competitions and lots more fun for kids.
Free Legal Seminar: "Are you in the know when it comes to your business?"
Rainey Collins will be at Churton Park Community Centre next Monday evening (11th August) from 7.15 - 8.15pm to discuss all the legal ins and outs that you need to know to keep your business running smoothly, including legal structures, leasing premises and contracting with suppliers. There will be time for questions at the end. A great seminar for those running a small business from home!

West Park School’s 4th Annual Battle of the Brains Quiz; $20 per ticket
Saturday 16th August, 7.30 – 10pm, West Park School Hall, Broderick Road 
It’s that time of year again!  Make up a team of 4-8 and come along for an action packed night full of giveaways and fun!  Great goodies up for offer in the raffles and silent auction too.  The ever popular $5 mystery envelopes (lucky dip for grown-ups!) will be there again too. This is a BYO (drinks and drinking vessel) event; a light supper will be provided.  We hope to see you there.

Gifted Child?  Here’s your chance to come and try out One Day School, New Zealand’s longest running programme for gifted learners.  On Thursday 4thSeptember 2014, Mind Adventure Day (MAD) sessions will be held 9.30am – 12.00pm for children aged 6-8 years, and from 1.00pm - 3.30pm for children aged 9-13 years.  Sessions will be held in our One Day School classroom at Rangikura School, 95 Conclusion St, Ascot Park, Porirua. The cost is $35 per family and pre-registration is required. Teachers, and parents of children registering, are most welcome. Flexible lesson times, $20 a lesson and adaptable lesson content. Basic music theory can also be built into the lessons. 1.     Australian author Jacqueline Harvey (Clementine Rose/ Alice Miranda) will be at The Children’s Bookshop in Kilbirnie Plaza at 4pm on Wednesday September 3rd at 4pm to meet her readers and sign her books. all are welcome, free to attend.
2.     Storylines Free Family Day 10am –3pm Sunday August 24th at The Michael Fowler Centre. Completely free of charge- a day of authors, illustrators, story-telling and fun activities. Guests include Apirana Taylor, Brian Lovelock, Gary Crew, Joy Cowley, Moira Wairama, Philippa Werry, Sally Sutton and others.
