Churton Park Community Centre - What's On to October 26th, 2014

ON NEXT WEEK
·         ** Churton Park Photography Club ** - October’s meeting is showcasing members photographs of SPRING..... from lovely spring flowers to wild weather and even a blood moon. Tuesday 21st October 7.30 – 9.30pm. New members are always welcome. Contact the Centre for more information. (See below for more information on the Club’s End of Year Exhibition)

·         ** Churton Park Physiotherapy Pilates: Cancelled Classes ** - Please be advised that, due to staff annual leave, Pilates with Churton Park Physiotherapy will be cancelled from Wednesday 22nd October - Monday 3rd November. Classes resume once more on Wednesday 5th November. Classes will continue to run at Khandallah Town Hall on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9.30 - 10.30am and Monday, Thursday 6-7pm. Apologies for any inconvenience.

·         ** Churton Park Craft Market Raffle ** - The organisers of the Churton Park Craft Market have put together an amazing raffle, with proceeds going towards the Autism Intervention Trust. Every stallholder attending the Craft Market has donated a gorgeous item. Raffle tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5 and are available from me here at the Centre, so come in and grab a couple of tickets! The raffle will be drawn at the Churton Park Craft Market on Friday November 14th!

·         ** Free CPR Classes with Wellington Free Ambulance ** - limited spaces are still available in the 11.30am session and plenty of space in the 7pm session. Brush up your skills with a fun, easy and interactive session. Register with me at the Centre – 830 4802 or reply to this email.

·         ** SPCA Adopt-a-thon ** - October’s Adopt-a-thon will be running on Saturday 25th October from 12 – 3pm.

COMING SOON – MARK YOUR CALENDARS
·         ** Card and Box Making Class ** - this is a lovely, crafty class just for grown-ups! Learn to make cards. envelopes and boxes. Tuesday 28th October from 10-12pm and only $20 for 4 stunning crafts to keep. Numbers are limited for this class, so make sure you get in touch to book your spot: beckie.duffy@wcc.govt.nz / 830 4802. See the attached flyer or in-Centre for examples of what you will make.

·         ** Preschool Music Classes ** – Tuesdays 10:00 a.m. – 10:45am, starting Tuesday 4 November. Music, song, and dance for pre-schoolers. Let your little one explore melody, rhythm, and movement in interactive, fun sessions! These classes will give children an introduction to music making and appreciation – an excellent foundation for starting an instrument. Song and movement are excellent ways to develop children’s brains for wider learning. First class free if signed up before 31 October. Limited spaces! $40 for five classes. ·         ** Free Arthritis Seminars ** - designed to help you live positively with arthritis. We hosted these sessions a few months ago and people were buzzing about how useful they were! Wednesday 5th November from 10am. See the schedule attached for different times for different types of arthritis. Tell your friends with arthritis! ·         ** Funclay Christmas Decoration Class ** - Drop the kids off and get some Christmas shopping done while they learn how to make cute Christmas decorations out of Funclay. Great on the tree or for gifts. Funclay will also be available to purchase. Thursday November 6th (2 spaces left) or Friday 7th November from 3.30 - 5pm, $15 per child. Please book through the Centre – beckie.duffy@wcc.govt.nz or 830 4802.

·         ** Pashminas Unlimited Sale ** - For the first time at CPCC, fine quality Kashmiri pashminas in silk, wool and cotton. These would make gorgeous Christmas gifts (or something special for yourself) on sale at CPCC on Friday 21st November between 12 – 2pm. See attached for more information on product and prices.

·         ** Churton Park Photography Club End of Year Exhibition ** - Tuesday 25th November, from 7pm at Simmer CafĂ©. This will be an opportunity to see and appreciate the talent and the achievements of this group in the past year. Examples of the students' work will be framed and available for sale. For those of you curious about joining the Club, this could also be a great opportunity to get along and meet some of the members.

·         ** Diwali Festival of Lights Mela Day ** - Join in the fun and festivities of the 2014 Diwali celebrations this Sunday 1.30 – 10pm at TSB Arean and Shed 6. Gold coin entry. See http://wellington.govt.nz/events/annual-events/diwali for full details.

·         ** Community Training Workshops ** - WCC run some very useful workshops on running events in your community. There are two more coming up in November. I have attended both these courses and found them worthwhile, and an excellent networking opportunity. Workshops are held at Meeting Room Level 1, ASB Sports Centre 72 Kemp St Kilbirnie.  $40 voluntary organisations, $60 government or business organisations. Please contact me for an enrolment form:
o   Get Set Go -  Find out everything you need to know about running a community recreation programme or event - 14 November   9am – 3pm
o   Spread the Word – How to effectively promote your community event or programme - 21 November: 9am - 3pm

·         **Community Funding ** - Need funding for your community project, event or other venture and not sure where to start? If you have a Wellington City Library Card, why not check out "Fundview" through the Wellington City Library Databases. ·         ** Churton Park Kindergarten Quiz Night ** - Churton Park Kindy’s annual Quiz Night Fundraiser at 1841 on Sunday the 2nd of November.  It will be a super fun night and there are some great prizes up for grabs.  All proceeds go directly to supporting Churton Park Kindergarten. See attached.
·         ** Free Xero Training ** is running free training for Charities and Non-Profits on how to use their financial management software. See the attachment for more information. 
FROM NEWLANDS COMMUNITY CENTRE
For Community Service Card holders – if you are in need of some good clothes, we are holding a ‘Helping Hand Day’ at the Centre on Wednesday 22 October, from 9am – 2pm. We have a good range of quality second hand women’s clothing and also toys that will be available for people to take away. Changing room provided, to make sure you get what fits! Please make sure you bring your CSC with you and proof of address.
