Churton Park Community Centre - What's On to February 15th

Yay for a short week! The Centre will shut be shut tomorrow for Waitangi Day – enjoy your day off! We have lots starting next week, so have a read through and see what you might be able to join in.

REGULAR CLASS SPOTLIGHT – Fairy Dance Ballet, Saturdays 10-10.30am
Term one of Fairy Dance starts this Saturday at 10am – so enrol your little ballerina in classes now! $99 for a full term, or $15 per class, casual. To register, phone Miss Tracey on 027 8900 164, info@fairydance.co.nz. Check out the website here.

·         ** Quest 4 Wellness Seminar ** -  LIVE YOUR BRILLIANCE in 2015. Are the Christmas 'pounds' still weighing you down? Come and join us for a unique, fresh perspective guaranteed to accelerate you towards your desired results for a thinner, more healthy you, boosting your energy and self-esteem. ·         ** Wednesday Walkers ** - February walk schedule attached.
·         ** Tai Chi with Janet ** - Janet’s relaxing Tai Chi classes re-start on Thursday 12th February at 10.30am. All welcome, $2 to participate.
·         ** Rummikub Group ** - this new group starts on Thursday 12th February from 10-12pm. $2 to play, all welcome.
·         ** Brain Bunny Creative Writing Classes ** - creative writing classes for kids start on Thursday 12th February. To register, contact Helen at Brain Bunny on 499 0435 or brainbunny@hotmail.co.nz. More information here.
·         ** 3D Printing Introduction Workshop for Adults ** - places still available for this introductory session on Friday 13th February 7.15 – 9.15pm. Register viawww.fre3formd.co.nz. A follow up practical workshop will be held in March.
·         ** Social English ** A quick reminder that our popular Social English group re-starts this Friday at 10am. Come along for friendly conversation and a chance to practice your English. Just $2 to join in.
·         ** Chinese Library Collection via CPCC ** - we will have a selection of Chinese language books available at CPCC for borrowing. This service will be available to anyone with a Wellington City Libraries Card. You will be able to borrow books for 3 weeks and books can be returned either to CPCC or Johnsonville Library. Books will start being available for borrowing from this Friday 13th February. See attached.
·         ** Starship Mobile Phone Appeal ** - Donate your old mobile phone and raise funds for Starship's National Air Ambulance. For more information visitstarship.org.nz/phone. To donate to the appeal please drop any unwanted mobile phones into CPCC Monday – Friday 10-2pm.
COMING SOON – MARK YOUR CALENDARS
·         ** Creative Expressions – Daphne, Anne and Rosie are back for 2015 with Monday afternoon Creative Expressions, starting from 1.30pm on Monday 16th February. We are a group who enjoys each other's company and the sharing of ideas and experiences and all crafters are welcome, no matter your level of experience. Please phone Daphne if you would like to join the group for this term on 977 2055. See attached for details on term one activities.
·         ** Chinese New Year Celebrations ** - 新年快! We’ll be celebrating Chinese New Year at the Centre this year with a shared lunch and free tai chi and table tennis sessions. Join us on Thursday 19th February from 11 – 1pm and please bring a plate of food to share.
·         ** Churton Park Toastmasters ** – how lovely to see the profile on Churton Park’s own upcoming Toastmasters group in this week’s Independent Herald (read the article on p6 here). Our group starts on Thursday 12th March at 7.30pm.  To register your interest, please contact Maya: 478 9466 ormaya.fengshui@paradise.net.nz.

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
·         ** Ni Hao Children’s Community ** - Is your family interested in learning Mandarin Chinese?  Ni Hao Children's Community is a non-profit organisation offering fun, interactive & movement-based classes and we're seeking expressions of interest in our classes in this local community. Our classes include Music and Movement for Babies to Preschool ages, and Learning by Doing for Primary School ages. Classes prioritise developing the oral and listening language skills of the children. We also offer workshops for parents so everyone can learn and enjoy practising at home. ·         ** S.I.M.P.L.E Awareness - Expressions of interest are sought for: S.I.M.P.L.E   AWARENESS, Alternate Monday evenings from 7 - 8.30pm. S.I.M.P.L.E   AWARENESS allows an individual to tap into incalculable data, gain a new direction, harmony and clarity.  When this awareness is developed and embraced it can become a catalyst for change in an individual’s life.  S.I.M.P.L.E Awareness can be applied to every aspect, level and stage of life. COMMUNITY NOTICES
1.    Senior Net is holding an open morning on Friday 13th February at the Johnsonville Community Centre in the Trust Room. It is where older folk can learn computer and new technology skills. For further information please call Keith on 04 479 8220

2.    50s Forward News & Views - if you are 50+, you may be interested in an e-letter designed to keep you updated on events, news and trends, both local and overseas, that are relevant to an ageing population. If you belong to a group or club and have an upcoming event in support of older people that you would like to advertise, please forward the information to me athelenmacdiarmid57@gmail.com and I will be happy to include it in the next 50s Forward.

3.    Northern Suburbs Stroke Club Meeting on 18 Feb at Uniting Church Hall Doctor Taylor Terrace at 12.15.  This will be a talk on medical alarms with Linda Sheldon from Freedom Alarms.

4.    Submissions are now being sought on the proposed changes to the structure of councils in the greater Wellington region. You have until March 2 to submit your feedback. More information here.

FROM TAWA COMMUNITY CENTRE

For the month of February there will be FREE exercise classes for seniors.  Ezy Movers is held at Tawa CC on Friday mornings from 9.30-10.15am.  Come along and join Tracey for a fun, low impact exercise class to keep the joints and muscles moving
