The nomination forms for parent representatives on the Board of Trustees have now been posted out. If you require additional nomination forms these are available at the school office - we can also provide these in Te Reo, Samoan, Tongan, Simplified Chinese and Tagalog (Filipino). Please email gail@amesbury.school.nz if you wish to receive the form in any of the above languages.
The electoral roll is also available for inspection at the office.
A list of candidates will be posted on the noticeboard near the reception area as and when they are received. Nominations close at noon on Friday 24th May.
Mihi Whakatau (Powhiri)
A reminder that at 2.30pm on Tuesday 14 May we will be holding a Mihi Whakatau to welcome all new students and their families to the school. We would love for you to join us
Swimming
Just a reminder that Harakeke students attend swimming lessons on Mondays and Koru/Te Rito students attend swimming lessons on Thursdays. Please check that your child brings his/her togs and towel on these days. Also, if your child is not swimming for any reason, let you child's whanau teacher know in advance as this helps with the organisation on the day. This can be done by email or face-to-face. Please just be aware that teachers may not check their emails between 8:30am and 3:30pm as their main priority is working with students.
Also, in order to prevent delays getting on the bus promptly on Thursday mornings it helps if students sign in as soon as they get to school. To help with this please give a gentle reminder to them before they go into school.
New Uniform Delays
We have just been advised that there is a delay with our production orders for the turquoise, gold and orange polo tops. If the size/colour you want is currently sold out, you can still place an order and Rachel will let you know as soon as this new stock comes in (expected to be the end of June). Our apologies for any inconvenience.
School Maladies
As with any notifiable disease, it is also helpful and important for us to know if students and staff are away for a period of time due to Influenza. If you are using the website/app absence form for one of these reasons, please select 'Other' and then add a comment in the 'Reason' field, or email the office.
Influenza is more than just a ‘bad cold’. Although some of the symptoms are the same, influenza is usually much more severe. Symptoms of influenza include a cough, headache, fever or chills, body aches and pains, fatigue and generally feeling miserable.
We've been asked to remind you about Measles as two cases have now been confirmed in Wellington.
Just a reminder too about nits/head lice.

Spiritus Dance Company
Lorna, who runs Leaping Lizards for kids, which is held in the Amesbury Hall, is also offering dance classes exclusively for adults from beginners to advanced.

Springboard & Platform Diving at Kilbirnie Pool
Wellington Diving Club runs diving classes for kids aged 5 years and up (plus separate adult training sessions). Try something new - visit their website and go along for a 30min Trial Lesson! After-school sessions available on Tues/Wed/Thurs/Fridays and they cater for kids of any level from beginners to competitive. Casual “drop-in” sessions also on (most) Sundays.

TechWeek Marsden Innovation Series – speaker Victor Huang

On Monday 20 May the Series features Victor Huang, all-round technology and social entrepreneur, animator, fashion photographer, game maker, product designer and film director. Victor will inspire with his creativity, aptitude with technology along with his entrepreneurial spirit. During his eleven years at Weta Digital, Victor was a recipient of the Visual Effects Society Award recognising his work on The Hobbit and he has most recently completed work on Avengers: Endgame. Marsden School Year 10-13 production of Godspell
21-24 May, 7.30pm, Marsden Auditorium, Marsden Ave, Karori
The narrative centres around a group of philosophy students who gather together on the familiar tiles of Cuba St to debate the existence of a God. Cue Jesus, who has come to spread an important message. Jesus enlists the help of the young philosophers to enact a series of parables from the gospel of Matthew. The prodigal son, the sheep and goats, the adulteress and the Pharisees all have a part to play in drawing together this community. The group eventually comes to understand a shared vision - that together we can create a world of kindness, tolerance and love.
