Just a few things ....

Lesley and I wish to echo Urs's thoughts that you stay safe and well during this extraordinary period of our lives. Despite the disruption to our everyday lives, we believe that you and we will come out the other end stronger, more resilient and better equipped for the 'new' future.

New Build Consultation

Earlier in the week Urs emailed all parents and caregivers an article on the new build and sought your input. Please take the time to read it, watch the presentation, and respond. It's your school and your golden opportunity to have your say.

If you are having any issues accessing it or you haven't received it, please contact Urs urs@amesbury.school.nz.

The School Day

From personal experience, I would like to re-iterate a comment that Urs made in her editorial last week.

Firstly, don't try to make the school day mirror an Amesbury school day, or a school day that you had when you were at school. By all means have a schedule for the day so that the kids know when "school" starts and finishes. With lessons at home, you will find that you accomplish a full day's school work in far less time than it would take at school. Don't feel guilty about that. Just stop and move onto another activity with your children, or free-time, or whatever suits your family.

If you have a few minutes, I would encourage you to read this light-hearted article by Jordan Watson of "How to Dad" fame. It illustrates what I was trying to say above far better than I did.

Accessing Wellington Library's Online Services

Just a reminder, if you haven't already done so, to take advantage of the online services at the Wellington Library. If you haven't already joined up, no problem, you can do that too.

If you are interested, please read this article and follow the links.

Anything to Share?

If you have anything that you wish to share with the Amesbury Community, feel free to send it to me (communications@amesbury.school.nz), you never know, it could be the perfect thing to help others through this or something hilarious to take our mind off things.

One thing I noticed yesterday, while Lesley and I were sitting outside in the sun having lunch, was that there was a cobweb from the bottom side of our car to the grass below. I then realised that we hadn't moved the car since before the lockdown started! In fact, we haven't been shopping either. Our e-bikes, on the other hand, have worked overtime.

We miss seeing our grandkids in the flesh but we do keep in constant contact with all of our family. The other day we had a Zoom session. It was absolute chaos! There were 11 screens in operation so that all of our 8 children, their partners and our grandchildren were involved. It was just like when we all get together - everyone was talking at the same time. It was wonderful!

Stay safe - stay connected - and let's all get through this by helping one-another.
