"Finding Our Feet"

This year our focus as a school is "Finding Our Feet". The Board of Trustees discussed it last week at its first meeting of the year and felt that it was the appropriate focus for this year. Having been open for two years, and, during those years having continually explored what 21st century learning looks like in our modern learning environment, we see this year as being about turning the things we have come to understand into consistent, robust "best practices" that are deeply embedded in what we do. This does not mean that we will stop exploring 21st century learning....we never will. There is so much for us still to discover. But it does mean slowing down, taking stock and doing the work that ensures there are consistent shared understandings, attitudes and practices that align with our beliefs about how students learn best and about how we should live together in community.

We are very excited about this year. We are looking forward to slowing the pace, clearing our heads a little and taking a moment to sit back and look at what has been achieved over the past two years. We have identified six main goals or objectives that will contribute to "Finding Our Feet". They are:

*Growing community (relationships....relationships....relationships!)
*Establishing our best practices
*Developing professional capital
*Finding some friends to play with
*Gaining credibility
*Establishing long term financial viability

At our first community evening of the year, we will share a bit more detail with you about how we plan to work towards each of these goals/objectives and also a little more about the educational thinking that sits behind ideas such as "professional capital" and "best practices".

We look forward to working together this year to "FIND OUR FEET".
