Amesbury Awesomeness Awards and Pōwhiri

Today saw two important ceremonies in Amesbury's school life - the presentation of Term 2's Amesbury Awesomeness Awards, and the pōwhiri to welcome new students and staff.

This afternoon at Amesbury we held a pōwhiri to welcome all our new staff and students and their families into the Amesbury whanau. We have two new staff, Kalesha in Harakeke and Anna Maria in Te Rito. We have had many new students since our last pōwhiri, and we are very happy to welcome them all, but a special welcome goes out to Betty, who has come from China to spend these two weeks with us.

Unfortunately we also had to farewell two students, Shaked and Yahav, who are leaving us today. We wish them all the best in their travels and adventures, and hope they come back to visit us soon.

We would normally present our Amesbury Awesomeness Awards at the end of each term, but last term we postponed the presentation to avoid a clash with the school production. So today we took the opportunity to present our Amesbury Awesomeness Awards.

Te Rito presented their award to Audrey, who they describe as:

Adaptable

Upbeat

Determined

Reliable

Enthusiastic

Young Leader

Koru presented theirs to Vida, describing her with this poem:

Vida, you are valued and very talented in a variety of things.

Interesting, including and inviting, with lots of ideas and imagination.

Dreams up daring and dangerous adventures during any time of the day.

Always applies an awesome attitude.

Harakeke's award went to James, for whom they wrote a story describing his fearlessness in the face of challenges and his friendliness in his interactions with others. Harakeke ended their story about James with this:

In fact, legend has it, that James can make the best of any situation he’s in.
Congratulations to our three awesome Amesbury Awesomeness Awards winners!
