Churton Park Community Centre - What's On to February 8th, 2015

Hi Everyone 
I hope you’ve made the most of this fabulous weather – hasn’t it been marvellous!
·         Next Friday 6th February is Waitangi Day and CPCC will be shut. Check out the festivities organised to celebrate Waitangi Day here.
·         The SPCA are kicking off 2015 at CPCC tomorrow from 12-3. They have 13 felines looking for their forever homes, including lots of kittens. So...if you are looking for a fur baby for the new year, please pop down and meet them!
·         The Wednesday Walking Group “Drinkies" Night is on tonight - Simmer Cafe 5:30-7:30pm. All welcome.

REGULAR CLASS SPOTLIGHT – Phil Hope Guitar Wednesdays 3.30 – 5.30pm
Guitar lessons for kids aged 8+ through to adults are on Wednesday afternoons throughout term time. Phil is a professional musician who teaches small group classes (max 4 students) a range of guitar skills including chords, strumming and picking. Classes are half an hour long and are $12 per session, paid in advance for the term. Please bring your own instrument. ON NEXT WEEK
·         ** Preschool Music Classes ** - Tuesdays, 10:00am - 10:45am. This term will be an eight week term, and if signed up by Friday 30 January there is a special discounted rate of $70! Casual rate (ideal for a friend to try), is just $10 per class. The dates are

·         ** Santosha Meditation with Diane ** - new for 2015, Diane, who runs our two weekly yoga classes will be adding a Wednesday lunchtime meditation class to the timetable for 2015. Work with Diane to explore a number of techniques to find one that suits you to help lead your mind into stillness. Starts Wednesday 4th February from 12-1pm, $40 for 4 weeks. ·         ** Starship Mobile Phone Appeal ** - Donate your old mobile phone and raise funds for Starship's National Air Ambulance, an invaluable service that flies medical experts to emergencies around the country and brings children back to Starship for lifesaving care. We are happy to receive any make and model of mobile phone regardless of condition. The Starship Mobile Phone Appeal - operated by Swapkit, partner to RE:MOBILE, NZ's only accredited mobile phone recycling scheme. ·         ** Chinese Library Collection via CPCC ** - we are delighted to announce that from mid-February 2015, we will have a selection of Chinese language books available at CPCC for borrowing. This service will be available to anyone with a Wellington City Libraries Card. You will be able to borrow books for 3 weeks and books can be returned either to CPCC or Johnsonville Library. ·         ** Chinese New Year Celebrations ** - 新年快We’ll be celebrating Chinese New Year at the Centre this year with a shared lunch and free tai chi and table tennis sessions. Join us on Thursday 19th February from 11 – 1pm and bring a plate of food to share.
·         ** Churton Park Toastmasters ** – Successful Communicators and Leaders ** - starting in March, the Toastmasters group will meet every second Thursday from 7.30 – 9.30pm. Toastmasters is an ideal way to gain confidence in public speaking and leadership through practice. It’s ideal for helping you manage that new promotion, improving confidence with speaking English, coming across better in a job interview, gaining confidence in giving presentations and leading meetings and developing leadership skills. "Creative Writing Classes in Churton Park
Brain Bunny Creative Writing Classes are suitable for children who are already passionate storytellers, and for children who are looking to gain confidence.

Classes for 8-12 year olds will be held at the Churton Park Community Centre on Thursdays 4-5pm starting 12th February. $120 for term one. Classes are also offered in Karori on Mondays.

The football season commences on Saturday 18th April.  Trials for 9th – 14th grades (children turning 9 – 14 this year) will be held on Sunday 8th and Sunday 15th February at Alex Moore Park.  Children wishing to attend trials will need to be pre-registered by Thursday 5th February.

Churton Park Community Centre - What's On to February 1st, 2015

Hi everyone

Welcome to 2015 at CPCC! I trust you have all had a refreshing festive season!
With a new year comes a new start and if you are thinking about doing something different in 2015 and perhaps want to share your knowledge or expertise with the community, have a think about running a community class here at the Centre. We have so many talented people living in Churton Park and we have had some fun classes run here by locals in the past from genealogy to Spanish lessons - why not come in and have a chat?
If you have had new neighbours move in over Christmas, please share this newsletter with them and ask them to pop in to the Centre to find out what’s going on and connect with the community. For what’s coming up next week, please click here
REGULAR CLASS SPOTLIGHT – Wonderplay Drama Tuesdays from 3.30pm
Join professional actor, Debs Rea for age focussed drama classes aimed at giving kids confidence and a love of drama! Due to graduations last year, there are a few spaces in all classes, so come along and try a class for free!
Ages 5 – 8 Years Tuesdays 3.30-4.30pm
This term the class will be covering:
• Improvisation
• Collaboration
• Character work
• Shape and structure for narrative and image
Ages 9-12 Years Tuesdays 4.45-5.45pm
This term the class will be covering:
• Introduction to Stanislavsky
• Screen acting technique
• Collaboration
• Character study
• Improvisation
**New in 2015** Young Actors Tuesdays 6.15-7.15pm at CHURTON PARK SCHOOL HALL
Young Actors provides more intensive training for 12-18 year olds. Teenagers are given tools to create their own work and bring to life the work of others. Classes involve voice and movement training as well as character building skills and acting for stage as
well as screen. Students are encouraged to make their own discoveries and are mentored to become independent performers who can create and problem-solve on their own.

Weetbix TRYathlon - 2015



Weetbix TRYathlon is the largest triathlon series for kids in the world. The series encourages Kiwi kids of all sporting abilities, aged 7-15 years, to get out and give it a TRY.

Details of Wellington Weetbix TRYathlon:

  • Where: Kilbirnie Park
  • Who: Kiwi kids aged 7 - 15 years.
  • What: Swimming, cycling, running.
