Community Notices - April 2013

Looking for something creative to do this school holidays?
Metlink are running an art competition that we’d love students from your school to be part of it.  It's all about encouraging Wellingtonians to use our region's bus, train and harbour ferry services.  Entry is simple - create a piece of art that you think brings to life the theme of "Its Your Transport" simply by using our online toolkit  www.metlink.org.nz/itsyourtransport . Entries close Friday 3 May 2013.
Entries will be short-listed by Metlink and will then go to a public vote on Facebook (so get your friends and family ready!) with the winning entries being printed on some of  Metlink's buses, trains and a harbour ferry (imagine seeing your artwork drive by!) as well as being printed as posters which you will see around Wellington.
So get started - head to  www.metlink.org.nz/itsyourtransporto find out more

We'd just like to remind students and their families that they can take a walk along the new section of Westchester Drive this Saturday (20 April) before it opens to traffic on Sunday.
Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown will officially open the new 800-metre link road at 11am on Saturday on the new bridge at the western end (below the Brethren Church) and you are welcome to come along and watch. Between 10am and 3pm, the road will be open so people can walk through and take a good look. It will open to vehicles at 7am this Sunday (21 April).
Local businesses and community organisations are planning a range of things on Saturday. Glenside Progressive Association and the Onslow Historical Society will run a guided tour about the history of the area leaving from the western bridge at 1pm. There will also be lots going on at Churton Park Village between 12 noon and 3pm, including a competition for the best decorated pram, bike or scooter; ukulele, dance and drumming performances; a best-dressed pet competition; car seat checks and a free zumba class.
